Radiator & Cooling System Repair in Hilliard, OH

Your radiator and cooling system keep your engine from overheating — and an overheated engine is one of the fastest ways to turn a small repair into a very expensive one. If your temperature gauge is climbing, you’re losing coolant, or you’ve spotted a puddle under the car, the ASE-certified technicians at Hilliard Auto Repair will find the cause and fix it right — with up-front pricing and a free estimate before any work begins.

We service the entire cooling system in-house: radiator repair and replacement, coolant flushes, water pumps, thermostats, hoses, the heater core, cooling fans, pressure caps, and hard-to-find coolant leaks. We pressure-test the system to pinpoint the real source instead of guessing, and we walk you through what we find. As a NAPA AutoCare shop, your repair is backed by the nationwide NAPA warranty.

Signs You Need Cooling System Service

Cooling problems can escalate fast — an overheating engine doesn’t give you much warning before it does real damage. Bring it in right away if you notice any of these:

  • The temperature gauge runs hot, or the warning light comes on
  • Steam or a sweet smell coming from under the hood
  • A green, orange, or pink puddle under the car — a coolant leak
  • You’re topping off coolant more and more often
  • The heater blows cold, or the cabin won’t warm up
  • Engine runs hotter than normal in traffic or on hot days
  • White smoke from the exhaust, or coolant mixing with the oil

Quick Cooling System Questions

A few of the questions we hear most often. If yours isn’t covered, give the shop a call — we’re happy to help.

What does the radiator and cooling system do?

The cooling system pulls heat away from your engine and releases it through the radiator, keeping the engine at its ideal operating temperature. Coolant circulates through the engine and radiator, the water pump moves it, the thermostat regulates it, and the fans help at low speeds. If any part fails, the engine can overheat quickly.

What are the signs of a cooling system problem?

A temperature gauge running hot, steam or a sweet smell from under the hood, coolant puddles (green, orange, or pink), needing to top off coolant often, or a heater that blows cold. Any of these means it’s time for an inspection — cooling issues get worse fast.

How often should I flush my coolant?

It depends on your vehicle and coolant type, but most manufacturers recommend a coolant flush somewhere between every 30,000 and 60,000 miles. Fresh coolant protects against corrosion and overheating. Check your owner’s manual, or ask us and we’ll tell you where you stand.

Why is my car overheating?

Overheating usually traces back to low coolant, a leak, a failed thermostat or water pump, a clogged radiator, or a cooling-fan problem. The only way to know which is a proper inspection and pressure test. Bring it in and we’ll pinpoint the cause rather than throwing parts at it.

Is it safe to drive with an overheating engine?

No — driving on an overheating engine can warp the cylinder head, blow the head gasket, or seize the engine entirely, which is a far bigger repair. If your temperature gauge is in the red, pull over safely and let it cool. If you can’t make it to us, we offer towing.

How long does radiator or cooling system service take?

A coolant flush is usually under an hour. A radiator, water pump, or thermostat replacement typically takes a few hours, depending on the vehicle. We’ll give you a clear time estimate up-front once we’ve diagnosed the issue.
