Schedule Your Engine ServiceEngine problems usually start small and get expensive fast. Catching them early protects your engine’s life and your wallet. Schedule a diagnostic right away if you notice any of these:
A few of the questions we hear most often. If yours isn’t covered, give the shop a call — we’re happy to help.
The most common signs are a check-engine light, rough running or stalling, unfamiliar noises (knocking, ticking, hissing), loss of power, smoke from the exhaust, overheating, or visible oil or coolant leaks. Any one of those is worth an inspection — engine issues rarely fix themselves, and waiting usually turns a small repair into a much bigger one.
It’s your vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system flagging a problem — anywhere from a loose gas cap to a serious engine or emissions issue. The light itself doesn’t tell you what’s wrong, but the stored trouble codes do. We read those codes, diagnose the actual cause, and walk you through what it’ll take to fix.
A steady light usually means you can drive carefully to get it checked soon. A flashing check-engine light signals a serious misfire that can damage your catalytic converter — reduce speed and get it looked at right away. If the light comes with overheating, odd noises, or a loss of power, treat it as urgent.
Engine repair fixes specific components — a sensor, a gasket, a water pump, an oil leak. A rebuild means disassembling the engine and replacing worn internals (rings, bearings, valves). A replacement means installing a new, remanufactured, or used engine. We help you understand which path makes sense for your vehicle, mileage, and budget — sometimes a repair is right, sometimes replacement is the smarter call.
The timing belt keeps the engine’s crankshaft and camshaft in sync. If it breaks, the damage can be severe — especially on interference engines. Most manufacturers call for replacement every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Check your owner’s manual, and if you’re approaching that range, bring it in for an inspection.
We start by pulling stored trouble codes and reviewing the symptoms you describe. From there it can include compression and leak-down tests, sensor readings, inspection of timing components, and visual checks for leaks or damage. We don’t quote repairs until we know what’s actually wrong.
Diagnostics usually take 1 to 2 hours. Smaller repairs (sensors, gaskets, water pumps) typically run a few hours to a day. Rebuilds and replacements are multi-day jobs. We always give you a clear time estimate up-front when we quote the work, and if your vehicle shouldn’t be driven, we offer towing.
